About Friends of Stoneleigh Library

Friends of Stoneleigh Library is a charitable association that was formed specifically in response to Surrey County Council's plans for certain local libraries in Surrey, including Stoneleigh, to become volunteer-run community libraries. Stoneleigh Community Library is a partnership between Surrey County Council and the Friends of Stoneleigh Library ensuring that Stoneleigh continues to have a viable and vibrant community library well into the future.

Aims

  • To keep Stoneleigh library open and running for the benefit and enjoyment of local people.
  • To advance the education of local people by the provision of a lending library and information centre.
  • To revitalise and expand the operation of Stoneleigh library.
  • To provide a meeting and drop-in facility for local people including hiring out of the facilities where appropriate.
  • To provide support for the development of community projects of benefit to local people.
  • To undertake all such activities as are necessary and ancillary to the above including provision of refreshments for sale.

Friends of Stoneleigh Library believes that a local library is a vital component in building a strong and vibrant local community.

Enthusiastic and committed volunteers are an essential part of our team and we value their contribution to ensure that Stoneleigh continues to have a library service that is relevant and accessible to everyone in the local community.

Legal Status

Friends of Stoneleigh Library is a small unincorporated charitable association which since the 6th July 2017 has been registered with the Charity Commission with Registered Charity Number 1173703. Prior to this date Friends of Stoneleigh Library was a small unincorporated charitable association but with an annual income of under £5000 and hence not registrable with the Charity Commission, but was recognised by HMRC as a charity for UK tax purposes. and had been allocated a HMRC Charity Tax Reference Number.
